During “Pink Out,“ FHHS and FHC Raise Money in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and both Francis Howell High (FHHS) and Francis Howell Central (FHC), dedicated their October sporting events to the cause with their annual “Pink Out” games. Together, both schools raised almost $4,000.

During their Pink Out volleyball, soccer, and football games last month, FHHS collected an impressive $3,000. Additionally, the softball and tennis teams organized events and activities to raise money for various cancer research causes, according to Sean Erwin, FHHS activities director.

Erwin said that having students in the community who are as engaged as FHSD students plays a vital role in being successful, especially during community and charity events.

“It’s very important for our student-participants to be contributing members of our community,” he said. “All programs at Howell strive to have success in the classroom, in their sport or activity, and in the community. I’m proud of the continued efforts of all involved in our programs to do great things in our community that benefit others. This is truly what being part of a high school activity or sport is all about.”

FHC raised a little over $700 at their JV and Varsity football games, according to Michelle Berryman, FHC’s head varsity cheerleading coach. Scott Harris, activities director at FHC, said he is very proud that the FHC athletic teams work together every year to help support this important cause.

“We were excited for our cheerleading and football programs to take part in the annual ‘Pink Out’ game,” Harris said. “All of our programs take part in a community service event during their season, and our cheerleaders have done a great job of making this an annual event for them and our community.”

Harris added that participating in activities dedicated to good causes not only helps those in need, but it also greatly impacts the students. “It allows our students to be part of something bigger than themselves and take the initiative to make a difference in this community, and their lives outside of school,” he said.

FHSD congratulates FHHS and FHC on their efforts to raise money for a worthwhile cause.
