Forty Students to Represent FHSD at the DECA International Competition

Forty students from the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) high schools will represent the District in the International DECA Career Development Conference in Anaheim, California, from April 26-29, 2017. This includes 23 students from Francis Howell High School (FHHS), 10 students from Francis Howell North (FHN), and 7 students from Francis Howell Central (FHC). DECA’s programs and activities develop skills for careers in marketing, hospitality, finance, and management for students in high schools and colleges worldwide.

“To have our students represent our school in such a huge competition is phenomenal,” said FHN DECA Advisor Melissa Hanrahan. “We’re incredibly proud of all of our students for participating and putting their best foot forward. It really shows that they are getting equipped with the knowledge that they need to build successful careers within a multitude of growing industries.”

With outstanding performances from Maggie Hillmann and Reiley Rufkahr, who came up with a mobile fitness app, to Brandon Bauer’s take on why St. Louis is the best place for non-profit companies to host their annual meetings, students were able to pitch their ideas and projects at the state competition in order to win the right to present in Anaheim.

The International DECA Career Development Conference will include competitive events designed to aid in the development of essential skills needed for careers in hospitality, marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, and many other skills. These students will compete with over 16,000 high school students through DECA’s Competitive Events Program, with the goal of being named an international champion. Students will not only be competing, but will expand their entrepreneurial tool belt with essential skills to be successful in their future endeavors.

Congratulations to all of the students who participated in the Missouri State DECA Competition, and good luck to the students moving forward to compete in Anaheim! What a great way to close out an amazing school year.
