Some student-athletes find their athletic passion on the basketball court or the football field. For FHSD students Joanna Dohrman and Reagan Cathcart, Their calling is in the swimming pool. Both seniors made FHSD proud and captured state championship titles at the MSHSAA State Swim meet in February.
FHHS senior Reagan Cathcart earned a state championship win in the 50 free while also setting a new Class 2 state record. “It is very fulfilling to have won this year,” said Cathcart. “I’ve been working towards this goal for the better part of the last two years. It’s a great feeling to see all of my hard work pay off.”
Cathcart has an impressive reputation as a swimmer, but also as a student. She works hard in the classroom and is actively involved in volunteer work and giving back to the community. “Her hard work and dedication are truly impressive,” said FHHS Activities Director Sean Erwin. “The Howell Family could not be more proud of her achievements.”

FHN senior Joanna Dohrman won the state championship in the 500 freestyle and achieved her goal of breaking five minutes in the race. Dohrman balances her time swimming for both her high school team and her club team. “It’s kind of hard swimming for both teams, so it’s been exciting to see a lot of hard work paid off.”
Dohrman is no stranger to determination and dedication, and FHN Activities Director Michael Janes calls her “one of the best.” “She has a high GPA and a high character,” said Janes. “She would do anything for our school and is always smiling. She’s the kind of kid you want to have at your school.”
As Dohrman finishes up her time at FHN, she looks forward to studying at John Hopkins University, where she will take her skills as a swimmer to a whole new level. To read more about Dohrman, visit FHN’s student publication FHNtoday.com.
