The Francis Howell School District is proud to announce that Francis Howell High School has been named a
Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished School for 2019-20. FHHS is one of only two high schools in Missouri and one of only 34 in the nation to have earned the recognition for three consecutive years.

“With four-year sequences in engineering and biomedical classes and three course offerings in computer science, Francis Howell teachers immerse more than 400 students each year in active, engaging, and collaborative projects,” said Principal Dr. Dave Wedlock. “Each of these projects asks students to assimilate the knowledge required to determine, design, and present original solutions that address the most vital domains of understanding in the field. I am very proud of the way students develop their presentation, teamwork, and leadership skills through this process as they become college and career ready.”

PLTW is a nonprofit organization that provides a transformative learning experience for more than 10,500 elementary, middle, and high schools in all 50 states. The program empowers students to develop in-demand, transportable knowledge and skills through pathways in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science. PLTW’s teacher training and resources support teachers as they engage their students in real-world learning.

The PLTW Distinguished School recognition is based on the number of PLTW curricular offerings available to students, the number of students engaged in PLTW, and student success in their PLTW coursework. “It is a great honor to recognize Francs Howell for its commitment to providing students with an exceptional educational experience,” said Dr. Vince Bertram, President and CEO of PLTW. “They should be very proud of their work to ensure students have the knowledge and skills to be career-ready and successful on any career path they choose.”

PLTW’s recognition program is designed to honor districts and schools committed to increasing student access, engagement, and achievement in their PLTW programs. The schools and districts recognized are empowering students to thrive in an evolving world and have achieved exemplary results from their PLTW programs.
