Belcher Scholarship Nominees

The Missouri School Boards’ Association (MSBA) celebrates the successes of our public schools and recognizes the achievements of both students and school leaders. The school board of each MSBA member district is eligible to nominate one outstanding high school senior to apply for the John T. Belcher Scholarship. The local board of education selects an applicant based on academic achievement and leadership abilities. The Francis Howell Belcher Scholarship nominees are:

Mark Mitchell from FHHS is an Eagle Scout and an accomplished musician. He has participated in marching band and drumline all four years of high school. He has been awarded multiple gold medals for his performances in solo and ensemble competitions.  He is a member of the National Honor Society (NHS) and volunteers at a local food pantry. Mitchell will attend Missouri S&T in the fall.

Alexander Anderson from FHC is also an Eagle Scout and an AP Scholar. He has been a member of the varsity swim team since he was a freshman and has been a state qualifier every year. He is a saxophone player and earned First Chair in the St. Louis Metro District 8 Honor Band. He is a member of NHS, National Spanish Honor Society, FBLA, and Arête. Anderson’s 4.63 GPA puts him in the top 3% of the senior class. He will attend the University of Missouri-Columbia to major in business.

Aakruthi Pasuparthi from FHN is enrolled in the Technology Solutions strand of the CAPS program. She is an active member of NHS, Color Guard, Mu Alpha Theta, and serves in the FHN mentor program. She is enrolling at Missouri S&T in the fall and plans on majoring in mechanical engineering.

Congratulations to FHC senior Alexander Anderson, he was selected as the Belcher Scholarship applicant for the Francis Howell School District. He is eligible to compete for the $1,000 annual scholarship awarded to one student in each of MSBA’s 17 regions. A statewide winner will be selected from the regional winners and awarded an additional $1,500. MSBA established the John T. Belcher scholarship program to honor the man who was instrumental in developing innovative financing programs for Missouri school districts. The learning environment for thousands of Missouri’s public school students improved as a result of his work.
