FHSD Students Honored as MO 100 Scholars

Six FHSD seniors have been recognized in the 2020 Missouri Scholars 100. This program, coordinated by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals (MOASSP), honors 100 of Missouri’s highest achieving high school students.

To be selected as a member of Missouri Scholars 100, students must have a minimum 3.75 GPA, have a minimum ACT score of 29 or a minimum SAT score of 1900, be ranked in the upper ten percent of the class, and have taken upper-level courses in mathematics, science, English, and a foreign language. The students must also have excellent attendance, be exemplary school citizens, and be involved in school activities. A ceremony was scheduled for April 26 but has been postponed.

FHSD is honored to have such talented and motivated students representing our high schools this year. Congratulations to the following seniors:

Emily Scott (FHHS) has achieved a 4.7 GPA and participates in FBLA, Mu Alpha Theta Math Club, National Honor Society, Scholar Quiz Competition Team, French Club, Yearbook, Youth in Government, and Book Club. Scott is an honorable mention. She will attend the Elliot School of International Affairs at Washington University to pursue a degree in international politics. She was also accepted into the Women’s Leadership Program and was awarded the Presidential Academic Scholarship. Scott is ranked second in her class.

Lena Steins (FHHS) has earned a 4.7 GPA and is currently ranked first in the class of 2020. She participates in FCCLA, HOSA, National Honor Society, Youth in Government, and student mentorship. Steins has completed four years of Project Lead the Way (PLTW) biomedical science classes. She has received the Bright Flight scholarship and will be attending Washington University to major in biology on the pre-med track. Steins is an honorable mention.

Matthew Juhlin (FHN) has achieved a 4.78 GPA and ranks in the top five of his class. During his time at FHN, Juhlin was active in Drama Club, choir, and band, as well as serving as the performing arts representative on Student Cabinet. He will be attending Missouri State University in the fall, working towards a double major in vocal performance and music education. Juhlin received the Presidential Scholarship and will be participating in the Honors College at MSU.

Rajat Nepal (FHN) has a 4.79 GPA and is ranked second in his class. During his time at FHN, he has served as the president of Young Democrats, the Model UN, and Scholar Bowl. Nepal was the founder and captain of the FHN Curling team. He was also active in speech and debate, Spanish Club, junior and senior class delegates, National Honor Society, FBLA and DECA. Nepal will be attending Washington University in the fall, majoring in business and computer science.

Hunter Bowman (FHC) has earned a 4.79 GPA and ranks second in his class. During his high school career, he has been active in FBLA, police exploring, and served as the Senior Class Vice-President. He will be attending Truman University in the fall to study computer science, on Truman’s Pershing Scholarship. Bowman plans on joining the Army after high school, with the hopes of becoming an FBI or Cyber Special Agent.

Brent Harfmann (FHC) will graduate in May.
