The U.S. Department of Education has recognized Francis Howell High School as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2020. FHHS received the prestigious award based on their exemplary high academic performance. They are one of only two high schools in Missouri to receive the award this year.
“We are tremendously proud of our students, staff, parents, and community for receiving the National Blue Ribbon recognition, as it acknowledges all of their hard work, dedication, and achievement,” said Dr. Dave Wedlock, Francis Howell High School principal. “At FHHS, we continue striving to create learning environments in which we honor the dignity of every person on the campus, cultivate inclusive, innovative learning opportunities, seek extended learning in the community through school, home, and community partnerships, and prepare students for college and career success.”
The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content. FHHS joins FHSD’s three other Missouri Blue Ribbon Schools (named last year) – Becky-David, Daniel Boone, and Warren elementary schools.
“It’s a privilege to recognize the extraordinary work you do to meet students’ needs and prepare them for successful careers and meaningful lives,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos in the U.S. Department of Education announcement.
Now in its 38th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed recognition on 367 schools from across the country for 2020. On Nov. 12-13, 2020, the Secretary and the Department of Education will celebrate with honorees through a virtual awards ceremony.
