FHSD Celebrates Paraprofessional and Interpreter Appreciation Day

The future of Francis Howell School District students depends on the quality of the education they receive, and paraprofessionals and interpreters are instrumental in helping to provide the best possible education for our students. On Monday, April 2, 2018, FHSD will celebrate Paraprofessional and Interpreter Appreciation Day to recognize their contributions to our students’ educational success.

Their role is constantly evolving to meet the needs of our students and assist them with challenges they face. They are also integral to our schools as they greatly support the efforts of teachers in meeting the needs of students. Not only do paraprofessionals and interpreters support our staff, but they continuously serve our students with great skill, care, compassion, humor, and sensitivity.

If your child has not worked with a paraprofessional or interpreter, you may not be aware of what these dedicated people do to help students in the classroom. There are many roles that they fulfill including:

  • Providing one-on-one tutoring (for those who qualify)
  • Assisting with classroom management
  • Providing assistance in a computer lab, library, or media center
  • Holding/completing parent involvement activities
  • Implementing behavior management plans
  • Modifying materials
  • Acting as a translator
  • Providing instructional services, under the supervision of a teacher

FHSD gives a special thanks to all the paraprofessionals and interpreters who have dedicated their time and talents to helping our students succeed. Please take a moment to thank a paraprofessional or interpreter for the work they do for our students, teachers, and schools.
