The Francis Howell School District has partnered with St. Charles Community College (SCC) to offer the Early College Program (ECP) to all FHSD high school students. ECP offers high school students the opportunity to earn transferable college credits at SCC while still enrolled in high school. When enrolled in ECP, students will take college coursework on the campus of SCC with textbooks and curriculum taught by SCC professors. Students can earn enough credits to complete part or all of an Associate’s Degree while concurrently earning a high school diploma.
Students and their families will be required to pay for all tuition, books, and fees.

This is yet another way that the District is expanding college and career readiness.”

The Early College Program will consist of three different “Lanes” of course offerings. Any high school student may enroll in Lane 3 courses. Beginning in their junior year, students may enroll in Lanes 1 and 2 and replace part or all of their traditional high school course schedule with college courses.

LANE 1 – Transferable Credit Hours (juniors and seniors)

Students in Lane 1 will complete 42+ credit hours (Core 42) that will be fully transferable to any Missouri public college or university. Most private institutions in Missouri and neighboring states also accept these credit hours, but students and families will need to confirm this with their destination school. Students who complete the Core 42 will have completed the lower-division general education requirements for any Missouri public college or university.

Students in Lane 2 will have the opportunity to earn an Associate’s Degree from SCC and will be able to transfer to any Missouri public university having completed all lower-division general education requirements. Most private institutions in Missouri and neighboring states also accept these credit hours, but students and families will need to confirm this with their destination school.

LANE 3 – A La Carte Courses (freshmen - seniors)

Students in Lane 3 will take individual classes at SCC. For each course completed, the receiving Missouri public institution shall award full transfer credit, including any prerequisites or requirements for a major or minor. Most private institutions in Missouri and neighboring states also accept these credit hours, but students and families will need to confirm this with their destination school. Students may enter Lane 3 at any time in their high school career.

Interested students must complete an ECP application and submit it to their school’s counseling office. Students must also complete an online application for admission for SCC. All students will need to apply to SCC and take their entrance assessment. Prospective students will apply to ECP as part of the January registration process during their junior or senior years. All enrollees will complete a signed agreement to abide by the expectations and responsibilities of the FHSD/SCC ECP. More information and the application form are available on the District website.
