FHHS students attend FCCLA National Leadership Conference

Over the summer five FHHS students traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, to participate in the annual Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Leadership Conference and compete in STAR event competitions. The theme of this year’s conference was “inspired by FCCLA,” which challenged attendees to commit themselves to making a positive impact on their families, schools, and communities.

Sarah Reider and Lily Ramsay brought home Gold in the Environmental Ambassador category. Reider and Ramsay conducted research on sustainable energy that resulted in a solution that combined a variety of power sources for an environmentally friendly energy answer. Their solution was a combination of geothermal, solar, and hydroelectric power that focused on solar power for homes and geothermal and hydroelectric power for larger applications.

Mackenzie Rash, Meghan Donahue, and Danielle Robinson took home Silver in the National Programs in Action competition for their creative safety initiative. They made window coverings to secure classroom doors throughout the school building in case of a school intrusion and lockdown.

FCCLA is a nonprofit organization that provides students with educational opportunities to develop their personal and professional skills and prepare them for the responsibilities of adult life. In addition to the competitions, the students were able to attend workshops, network with other FCCLA members, and listen to a variety of guest speakers, including Chick-Fil-A CEO, Dan T. Cathy. FHSD is proud of the amazing contributions these students brought to the conference as well as our community. Way to represent, Vikings!
