FHSD is proud to announce that six teachers in the District have earned or renewed their National Board Certification, the highest credential in the teaching profession. FHSD now has 59 teachers who have achieved this distinction.
The District congratulates Francis Howell High School English Language Arts teacher Kimberly Linneman, Castlio Elementary fourth grade teacher Natalie Morris, and Henderson Elementary first grade teacher Stacy Wittenauer for achieving National Board Certification. FHSD also congratulates the teachers who have renewed their certification: Central Elementary reading specialist Kristin Eckert, Bryan Middle School science teacher Gina Ostermeyer, and Francis Howell High School math teacher Lane Walker.
National Board Certified Teachers are highly accomplished educators who meet high and rigorous standards. The certification, through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), is a voluntary process in which teachers work to advance the quality of teaching and learning. As part of this process, teachers analyze their teaching context and students’ needs, submit videos of their teaching, and provide student work samples that demonstrate growth in student learning over time.
“National Board certification is a demanding process,” said Superintendent Dr. Mary Hendricks-Harris. “As a result, our dedicated teachers have learned and reflected which will result in better outcomes for our students. We know that the teacher is the most important school-related factor when it comes to student achievement.”
Like board-certified doctors and accountants, teachers who achieve National Board Certification have met stringent standards through intensive study, expert evaluation, self-assessment, and peer review. A National Board Teaching Certificate is valid for ten years with the opportunity to renew certification.
