The Francis Howell School District is proud to announce that Lisha Ewing, Educational Support Counselor at Francis Howell Union, has been selected as the 2019 FHSD Support Staff Employee of the Year. Ewing has distinguished herself as a dedicated employee by continually going above and beyond to support her school community.

“It’s unbelievable to be honored like that, it means a lot to be recognized for the work you do every day,” said the unassuming Ewing. “I’m part of a team here at FHU, it’s more like a family and we all have a part to do.”

Helping students can happen in a variety of ways. Ewing believes that one of the greatest things we can do is set a good example. “Being a positive role model for my students means showing up every day for work with a mission to have a great day. When times are tough, that’s the most important time to model perseverance. I have goals and I share both my successes and my setbacks with students. I let them know that I will never give up on them, and I am always here for them.”

“Lisha is one of the most caring and devoted people you will find. She is committed to her work and helping each and every student that walks through the doors at Francis Howell Union,” said FHU Principal Rob Gaugh. “She has gone out of her way to deliver food from the Mobile Market, arrange Christmas gifts for multiple families, work through tough and emotional situations with parents and students, and just goes above and beyond in performing her job. So many of the things she does will never show up on a report or form but are all essential to the success of students and families at FH Union.”

Ewing’s support and pride are not confined to the halls of FHU; she is one of FHSD’s biggest supporters. “I am proud of the amazing educational and extracurricular opportunities that the District affords our students. I am always excited to see a Knight on the news, meet a Spartan scientist at Pfizer, see a Viking in the Super Bowl, or see a Phoenix running his own business in the community. I am proud of the legacy of the District. I am always supporting and sharing the incredible things going on and coming out of FHSD and hope to continue the tradition of excellence for many years to come.”

One of Ewing’s coworkers says she is part of the identity of the school. “Lisha is the heart and soul of FHU, period. Her love and devotion to our at-risk students are unwavering and unmatched. She goes far above and beyond to help everyone. Her influence is so strong that students who have graduated years prior will call her for advice, and to share their successes with her.”

Ewing will be honored, along with each school’s Support Staff Employees of the Year, Teachers of the Year, Howell of Fame Award winners, and District retirees at the annual Howell of Fame Awards Ceremony on Monday, May 6, 2019.
