FHHS Make-A-Wish Club Grants Child’s Wish

Every Friday night at Francis Howell High School is a special one. The energetic and positive atmosphere at Viking games is no secret; everyone knows how much fun they can be. But not everyone knows how fulfilling these games can be. In January, FHHS hosted its first annual Swishes for Wishes Night to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and one special guest had his wish granted thanks to the charitable efforts of some local future leaders and the community who supports them.

Luca is an 8-year-old who posts up every day with a lot of bravery. He’s been battling with lymphoma, a cancer that starts in a person’s cells that are part of the body’s immune system. But Luca has been fighting to box out lymphoma.

Their Swishes for Wishes Night, in honor of Luca, was a rousing success. The night included several activities that helped raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation to grant wishes for children in need, including the night’s MVP, Luca.

Over $1,300 was raised during the evening’s events, and the night was capped off with the boys and girls basketball teams presenting Luca with a signed basketball. Following that presentation, Luca was granted his wish by members of the Howell Make-A-Wish Club and the Make-A-Wish-Foundation.

Luca's wish is to go to LEGOLAND. Thank you to the Make-A-Wish Club and to all that attended the game and helped to make Luca's wish possible. It was truly a great night to be a Viking, and yet another example of how FHSD students are giving back to their community, making it a better place to live, work, and play.

And as Luca takes the court every day, he can smile and know that the support of the FHHS and FHSD community is a slam dunk.
