National Signing Day is one of the most exciting days in the lives of many student-athletes, when they commit to continuing their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level. Not only does it validate all the hard work put in by students and their families, but it’s also a chance to continue to play a sport they love, and earn a degree.
Each FHSD high school has their own way of honoring their finest student-athletes, but they all have something in common. Not only did these students excel in their respective sports, but also in the classroom, with all three schools’ signees had a cumulative GPA of at least 3.34. Their dedication to sports and academics clearly makes FHSD high schools the place to achieve greatness.
Francis Howell High School
FHHS signees have a cumulative 3.6 GPA over the course of their high school career. More amazingly, as of today, 45 percent of the school’s senior student-athletes will further their education and sport at the college level. All FHHS signees will be honored at a ceremony at the school in April.

Francis Howell Central
From FHC, the sixteen student-athletes listed below join the four Howell Central Seniors who signed during the early signing period last November. They have a combined GPA of 3.34 throughout their high school career and are involved in a total of 34 sports, clubs, or activities. “We expect an additional seven to ten student-athletes will sign later this year,” AD Scott Harris said, “and we will honor them at a ceremony in early May. These students all have tremendous work ethic and we are proud to honor and celebrate them on this significant milestone. We would like to wish all of them the best of luck in all of their future endeavors.”

Francis Howell North
At FHN, 14 students were honored in the school’s auditorium, with the students earning a cumulative GPA of about 3.4. Included in that group were the first-ever signees from the still-new lacrosse program, Briana Schmidt and Liz Wagner. Schmidt said, “It feels great to set the precedent, but I want others to do even better than I did. (The lacrosse team) has built up into something in which the school can take pride.” And certainly her parents take pride in their daughter’s success. “They feel pretty good right now,” she said. “Especially since I started playing lacrosse, they definitely supported me even more – they loved watching me play, seeing how the sport develops, and they feel a part of a bigger goal now.”
