My name is Mike Storm. I am in year 11 at FHHS. Previously, I spent 16 years in South Dakota and Iowa. I earned my BA from Central College in Iowa and my MS from South Dakota State University.
My classroom is a structured setting where stretching one's talents is rewarded and a place where failure is a stage in the learning process. I do not practice removing learning obstacles from students; instead, I will place the obstacles in front of students and then provide the tools that students need to move forward on their own.
I am a member of the National Education Association, the Francis Howell Education Association, the National Association of Basketball Coaches, and the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association.
I’ve been fortunate to experience moments of recognition during my career. My most prized honors are a state-level coach of the year award, a district-level teacher of the year award, a district-level teacher of the year nomination, and three senior class grand marshal awards. I share these honors for three reasons; one, to stir confidence in my students regarding my ability to help them learn; two, to point out the high level of expectations that I hold for myself and my students; and three, to share what value I place upon student trust and respect.
My wife Darcy and I have a nineteen-year-old daughter, Ashley. Frankly, they take precedent over any take home work. We share our home with a rather large and independent Maine Coon cat named Socks and Barkley, a nine-year-old golden retriever with unconditional love in his heart. My favorite activities are sports, landscaping, and reality TV. I am a huge fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and the Chicago Bears.
